What happens in episode 1
Nate is hired to watch the boss’s wife while the boss is away in Singapore for a week. The job pays five grand, and the instructions are plain: keep an eye on Lucy, look after whatever she needs and report back.
By the pool, Lucy takes control of the conversation. She asks whether the money is for watching her, and she points out that her husband used to spend that kind of money on her birthday. She also teases Nate about what she put on the minute his car left.
The nightly call from the boss is a fixed point, and the story gives Nate a line to report back. Then the plan changes: Nate is asked to stay at the house overnight, because Lucy gets scared sleeping alone.
The episode closes on the guest room. Nate is told it is right next to Lucy’s and to keep his door open, and then he is told not to bother with it.
Standout beatThe closing instruction, “Don’t bother with the guest room.”, is the cliffhanger the free part ends on.
