Candy AI Voice Calls: What They Cost and Who Gets Them

Upgrade panel that appears when the phone icon is tapped on a free Candy account, listing the paid call feature

Candy AI’s phone call is a Premium feature billed in tokens. Here is what a minute costs, how far a monthly allowance goes and what to expect before you pay.

A Candy AI voice call is a live voice conversation with a character, and it needs a Premium subscription. It costs 3 tokens per minute at the current beta price. Premium includes 100 tokens each month, which covers about 33 minutes of calls. On a free account, the phone icon opens an upgrade prompt instead of a call.

How you start a call on Candy

A Candy AI voice call starts from the phone icon in a character’s chat header, next to the icons for Shorts, Private Content and the profile panel.

On a free account, the icon does not start a call. On my signed-in free account, tapping it opened an “Upgrade to Unlock” panel instead. The panel lists four Premium features: AI Live Phone Call, the AI Girlfriend Generator, unlimited text messages and spicy photo requests.

The same gate covers the creative tools. Image generation and video show the same kind of prompt on a free account, so one subscription unlocks the whole set. A call is one of several features behind that gate.

That tells you the answer before you spend anything. A call is part of Premium, and a free account can see the prompt but not place the call. If you want to test the feature, sign up free, open a character you like and check the prompt yourself. Then decide whether the subscription is worth it for you.

What a call costs in tokens

Calls cost 3 tokens per minute at the current beta price. Premium gives you 100 tokens every month, which covers about 33 minutes of talking. Here is the math at a few lengths:

Call length Tokens used
5 minutes 15
10 minutes 30
20 minutes 60
33 minutes 99

Because the price is per minute, a short call costs little. The risk is a long call you did not plan for. Twenty minutes uses more than half the monthly allowance, and two 10-minute calls a week would use about 240 tokens over four weeks, more than twice what you get.

Those tokens are the same pool that pays for locked Candy Shorts episodes and private content packs. A 36-token series fits inside one month’s allowance, while a 90-token Creators series nearly uses it up. Spend the allowance on calls and you have less for episodes, and the other way round.

Premium also includes unlimited text messages, so text costs nothing extra beyond the subscription. Text is the cheap way to spend time with a character, and calls are the expensive one.

Setting up the mic and talking

A Candy AI voice call needs microphone access, and your browser asks for permission before it can start. Say yes when the prompt appears. If you deny it, you will need to change the setting in your browser before a call can run.

Candy’s own tip is to speak clearly and loudly, and it matters more than it sounds. You pay by the minute, so a mumbled sentence costs the same 3 tokens as a clear one. Keep the room quiet and talk a little louder than you would across a table. A headset with a mic can help, but only if your voice comes through clearly.

It also helps to plan before you dial. A live call does not let you pause and reread a line, so decide what you want to talk about first. That way the minutes go to the conversation, not to thinking of something to say.

Candy also asks for feedback after a call, so expect a short prompt when it ends. Treat the first call as a test of the setup as much as the character: check the sound and the pace, and decide whether you want a second call before you spend more tokens.

Voice notes and text compared with calls

Candy AI voice comes in two forms: live calls and voice notes inside the chat. A call is a live conversation billed by the minute. A voice note is an audio message in the chat. I did not check what a voice note costs, so do not take a price from me for it.

The free-chat banner groups voice with photos, video and calls under one unlock prompt. Expect voice features to need Premium until your own account shows otherwise.

Text is the other side of the comparison. On Premium, text messages are unlimited, so you can talk to a character all evening in writing and keep your tokens for episodes or an occasional call. Twenty messages cost you nothing beyond the subscription. Twenty minutes of calls cost 60 tokens, which is more than half of Premium’s monthly allowance.

That is the real trade-off. Text gives you volume at a flat price, and a call gives you a voice on a meter. If the voice is the point, the meter is the price of it. If you mostly want conversation, text on Premium is the better value by a wide margin.

Is the call worth paying for

If voice is the reason you are here, a call is worth a test, but budget it first. Premium is the subscription you need, and the cheapest route is the annual plan at $3.99 a month, billed as $47.88 for the year. The 3-month plan is $8.99 a month, billed as $26.97, and the monthly plan is $13.99.

The money line I use across this site applies here too. Start free, and if you plan to use Premium more than once a month, the annual plan is the cheapest way in. The monthly plan is the most expensive way to test calls, because it charges the most for the same 100 tokens.

The annual plan renews automatically for the same price and term. You can cancel any time in settings, and additional local taxes may apply.

Calls suit someone who wants a voice in their routine and is happy to pay for it by the minute. They do not suit someone who only wants to try the feature once, because the subscription is the real cost of a trial. If that is you, compare what one month of Premium costs with the calls you would realistically make, and decide on those numbers rather than on the feature list.

Catches before you pay

  • Calls need a subscription. A free account shows the prompt, not a call.
  • The rate carries a beta label. At 3 tokens a minute, it may change before the feature leaves beta.
  • Calls and episodes share one allowance. A long call can cost you a locked episode that month.
  • Top-ups need Premium. A free account cannot open the token store, and I did not check top-up prices.
  • Noise costs minutes. Background noise and mumbling use up paid time, so a quiet room is worth the effort.
  • The label can move. The prompt I saw says AI Live Phone Call, but the wording may change, so look for the phone icon in the chat header.

None of this makes calls a bad deal. It makes them a deliberate purchase, and that is how I would treat them. For the wider picture of what the token allowance covers, see the Candy AI pricing breakdown.

Strengths

  • Live voice conversation with a character you already chat with
  • One simple rate: 3 tokens per minute
  • Premium’s 100 monthly tokens cover about 33 minutes
  • Runs in the browser like the rest of Candy

Limits

  • Premium only: a free account gets an upgrade prompt, not a call
  • Calls and locked episodes draw on the same 100 tokens
  • The rate carries a beta label, so it may change
  • Needs microphone access and clear speech to work well

Your questions, answered

Is the Candy AI voice call free?

No. On a free account the phone icon opens an upgrade prompt, and calls need a Premium subscription. Once you have Premium, calls cost 3 tokens per minute.

How many minutes of Candy AI calls does Premium cover?

Premium includes 100 tokens each month, which covers about 33 minutes at 3 tokens per minute. Locked episodes and private content packs use the same tokens.

Do I need a microphone for a Candy AI phone call?

Yes. Your browser asks for microphone permission, and the call cannot run without it. Allow the prompt before you start.

Is the Candy AI phone call price fixed?

At the time of writing, the call showed 3 tokens per minute with a beta price label. Beta prices can change, so check the rate on Candy before you subscribe for calls.

Are voice notes the same as a phone call?

No. Voice notes are audio messages inside the chat, while a call is a live conversation billed by the minute. A free chat groups voice with calls under the upgrade banner.
