His Wife, His Rules on Candy Shorts is a five-episode original story about a work retreat that turns into something else. Jake comes along as the fiancé. His fiancée, Dana, has one goal for the week: impress her billionaire boss, Marcus Voss, and go home with a VP title. She tells herself to stay invisible, and she clearly believes it.

Jake gets a polite welcome. Marcus greets him at the house, and his wife, Vanessa, introduces herself and promises the couple will be looked after. Marcus then takes Jake aside. He has noticed how every man who walks into his house stares at his wife, and he says most of them lie about it. Then he asks Jake one blunt question about Vanessa, and the politeness in the room goes very quiet.

Nobody is angry, and nobody is sent home. That calm is the trick of the setup. The premise is a polite trap with a game at its center, and the game matters more to the story than the retreat does. I like shows that build tension out of manners, and this one does it from the first scene.

Episode 1 is setup. Jake arrives unsure of himself and is told to wait by the pool. Marcus takes him aside for a blunt, one-question talk that ends with Jake stammering an apology. Nothing gets explicit. The tension is all in the pauses.

Episode 2 explains the game. It has been played on every retreat for ten years, and it comes with three rules: Jake only plays when Marcus offers, never in the house, and Dana never finds out. The casita is Jake’s if he plays along. If he says no, he goes home with a suntan.

The free part ends on a cliffhanger. A sunscreen scene turns into flirting, and Jake is told he is sweet in a way that is dangerous. A tense line about being untied, and the marks it will leave, comes right before Jake’s name is called twice. The cast is small and original. There is no chat character to talk to afterwards, so the people you meet are the four adults at the center of the free part.

Jake is the fiancé and the point of view. Dana is his fiancée, and her promotion is the reason the couple is at the house at all. Marcus Voss is the billionaire boss who runs the retreat and sets the rules. Vanessa is Marcus’s wife, the one who makes the first welcome and promises good care.

My call: His Wife, His Rules is a tight, talky setup with a clear price. Five episodes is a short commitment, the free part does its job of introducing the rules, and you know what the locked part costs before you pay.

It suits you if you like premises built on manners and rules, and if the Cuckold and Wife tags are what you came for. It does not suit you if you want a chat with a character afterwards or lots of plot per episode.
