What happens in episode 1
At a family dinner, Kate jokes that she trusts her husband, Dan, so much that she would give him a hall pass, because he would never use one. Everyone laughs except Margot, Kate’s mother.
Margot doesn’t let it go. She says she isn’t joking, then asks Dan straight out whether he would use the offer. He says no, and Margot tells him nobody has ever answered that fast.
The two of them keep whispering while Kate asks what they are talking about and wants coffee. Margot says the room is hot and that Dan’s heart is racing. She tells him to keep his eyes on her, and then she mentions a book club night, which makes Dan start to protest before she shushes him.
The episode closes on Margot’s challenge. She tells him to see whether he can say no to her, and Dan is sent off to make the coffee while the others wait.
