What happens in episode 1
Jake has broken both hands, and his wife has arranged for a nurse from an agency to visit that morning. The agency was supposed to send someone in her sixties. Instead, the nurse at the door is not that, and Jake says so right away.
She apologizes, sort of, saying she is sorry to disappoint, and tells him she will manage. Then she goes off to change into something more appropriate, and the visit changes with her.
Back in the room, the banter does the work. Jake jokes about being unable to do the simplest things with his hands, and she turns each joke into a reason to take charge. She checks him over, makes a point about what else in the room is under pressure, and promises that his special treatment is coming.
The episode closes on her line about special treatment, with Jake left waiting for the rest.
