What happens in episode 1
Episode 1 opens with the groom-to-be being told his bachelor party is off. His future mother-in-law cancels it in front of the family, and he is left to take it on the chin.
She makes it clear the mood is not over. After brunch and a few too many mimosas, she says she is going to sleep for an hour and asks to be woken in the afternoon. When she is up, she leads him somewhere quiet, reminding him that this stays in the family and that the bride upstairs is a light sleeper.
The episode ends on one word, “Surprise,” which is the hook for episode 2. You get the setup, the tone and the first hint of what the mother-in-law has planned, all in about a minute.
