What happens in episode 1
Episode 1 opens with Veronica greeting her stepson at the door. His father is away on a work trip, so the house is quiet and it is just the two of them for the week. She is delighted to see him, and she makes it clear that the visit is going to run on her terms.
She introduces the house rules. The first is that he follows her every command. He tries to keep things light, and he mentions his girlfriend, but Veronica waves that off and invites him to join her in the hot tub outside.
His girlfriend keeps messaging him, and the episode uses those texts to pull the tension tighter. The stepson stalls, and Veronica notices. She picks up on his stress and asks whether he has girl trouble, and then she sets out the second rule: no calling his girlfriend that day.
